Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) translates to "the gentle art". It is referred to as such because the art utilizes leverage and balance rather than force and strength. Also the finishing movements are viewed as a more humane alternative to striking.
Jiu Jitsu actually originated in Japan, but was teaked on the grouind in Brazil. The Gracie family produced a very practical form called Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. BJJ is a martial art focusing largely on grappling and groundfighting. It promotes the principle that a smaller weaker person using leverage and proper technique can successfully defend themselves against a larger stronger assailant.
Brazillian Jiu Jitsu can be trained for self defense, sport grappling (gi and no gi) and mixed martial arts competition and has found its way into the training regiment of nearly every sucessful martial artist worldwide.

Kids and Junior Adults Jiu-Jitsu
Midwest Martial Arts has classes available for all ages! (usually starting
around 5 depending on motor skils, and the ability to follow instruction).
Contrary to what it may seem, kids martial arts is not about fighting.
Martial arts for kids, is a great way to build confidence and self-esteem as well as self-discipline, respect, concentration and courtesy. Martial Arts are often ideal for children who do not do well in team sports, giving them the ability to flourish this activity, while combining physical and mental practices, gaining confidence and learning a life-long skill.
Martial arts training are generally safer than most school sports, as much care and discipline is exercised when teaching the children. Children with special needs, such as ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), learning difficulties and hyperactivity can benefit from the structured training techniques in Martial Arts.

Muay Thai originated in Thailand. This art is different from other striking martial arts in that there are no forms. Also known as the "art of the 8 limbs", this striking art incorporates hands, elbows, knees, shins, feet and the head. Muay Thai focuses on speed and power, and will increase your stamina, endurance and cardio strength.
Kick Boxing's popularity has soared recently decade. Along with Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu the world of MMA fighting has popularized the art. And this stand up fighting style has become a part of many MMA professionals training routines.
This art form is very practical and can be used for self defense or competition. With strict training regimens and ferocious strikes, proficient kick boxers are a force to be reckoned with. Midwest Martial Arts is part of the Muay Thai International Association. Fighters are promoted based on a sash system.
Junior Adults Muay Thai (Martial Arts)
Here at Midwest Martial Arts, we teach and instill basic developmental
skills that will show up in many aspects of life such as showing proper
manners, how to look someone in the eyes, shake their hand and give a
polite greeting, improved listening skills, longer periods of focus and
attention span, self-control of one's actions and attitudes, learning to
participate in group activities and getting along well with others.
For many parents, our program is the perfect alliance and is one of the most valued investments for their child. We've had outstanding success teaching kids how to become goal oriented, athletic and academic achievers.
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)
Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows the use
of both striking and grappling arts while both standing and on the ground,
including boxing, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Karate,
Wrestling and other styles.
The sport of has recently exploded with the popularization of Mixed Martial Arts on television. MMA fighters are among the best athletes in the world, with training, focus and dedication second to none. Our modern version of MMA fighting has its roots with the Gracie Family from Brazil, and was popularized in the US by the UFC (ultimate fighting championship).
Midwest Martial Arts is home to the Bulldog Fight Team. The Bulldog Fight Team currently has over 25 professional fighters of all ranks, records and weight classes. Fighters have competed all over the country, and dominate the Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan events. The head instructor is Todd Brown, a UFC vetran himself, with long career and an impressive professional record. Todd holds a black belt in Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu and Kru status in Muay Thai.
